The 2002 Annual Meeting was held at Ferris State University.
The conference had good attendance, stimulating sessions and an interesting keynote address, "September 11, Global Exigencies and Sociology" by Mansoor Moaddel of Eastern Michigan University.
Ferris State was a wonderful host and contributed greatly to the success of the meeting. Special thanks go to President William A. Sederburg, who extended a personal welcome, as well as Michael Berghoef and Richard Ball who served as on-site coordinators.
AWARDS: Ronald and Deborah Freedman were given the Charles H. Cooley Award jointly for distinguished scholarship. The award to Deborah Freedman was posthumous.
Betsy Cullum-Swan was given the Marvin Olsen Award for outstanding service to sociology in Michigan.
A special citation was given to Chad Kimmel for his service to the MSA.
OFFICERS ELECTED: Karen Lang-Krause, Saginaw Valley State University, was elected president of MSA. Cheryl Boudreaux, Grand Valley State University, was elected vice president. Alan Hill, Delta College, was re-elected treasurer. (The other offices were not up for election this year.)
