Mike Hamm received his Ph.D.  in  Nutrition  in  1979  from  University  of Minnesota. His current research and outreach are focused on community-based food systems  and  community  food  security.  This  includes  research  on structural issues and trends in the food systems  and  avenues  for  moving producers and  consumers  towards  more  community-based  sustainable  food systems. He also works to identify opportunities for farmers and  consumers to link in socially and economically constructive  ways.  Within  community food security, his efforts are  focused  on  insuring  that  all  community residents obtain  a  culturally  acceptable,  nutritionally  adequate  diet through a sustainable food system that  maximizes  community  self-reliance and social justice.
