Theodore Wagenaar is Professor of Sociology at Miami University (Ohio) and is a Carnegie Teaching Fellow for the year 1999-2000. He received his A.B. degree from Calvin College in sociology and elementary education and the masters and Ph.D. degrees from the Ohio State University. He is a member of the Department Resources Group of the American Sociological Association and has conducted over 50 external reviews of sociology programs as part of that affiliation. He has also led over a hundred workshops on the evaluation of teaching, teaching methods, and curriculum development.
Professor Wagenaar served as the inaugural editor of Teaching Sociology and has served on the editorial board of The Teaching Professor, as well as on the boards of various sociology journals. He participated in the Study in Depth Project sponsored by the Association of American Colleges and co-authored the sociology report. Teaching awards include the Excellence in Teaching awards (Greater Cincinnati Consortium of Colleges and Universities), Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award (American Sociological Association), Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award (North Central Sociological Association), and the Mauksch Award for Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Sociology (Section on Undergraduate Education, American Sociological Association). He has served as a Research Fellow at the National Center for Education Statistics and has received several grants from NCES.
His publications include study guides to accompany leading introductory and methods textbooks in sociology, several volumes published by the Teaching Resources Center of the American Sociological Association on the capstone course and other courses, several articles in Teaching Sociology on student journals, study in depth, and evaluating teaching, and several articles in various journals on youth and the transition to adulthood.

Preregistration is $35 for faculty and $15 for students; on-site registration is $5 more. On-site registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., November 4, 2000.
Fee includes coffee and pastries, lunch, one-year
membership in MSA and subscription to MICHIGAN SOCIOLOGICAL REVIEW,
which will be handed out at the conference.
