Michigan's Role in a
Global Context
Mansoor Moaddel is Professor of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology at Eastern Michigan University. He received his B.A. from Shiraz University, Iran, his M.A. from Western Michigan University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. His research interests are in political sociology, social change, culture and ideology.
In collaboration with investigators from the University of Michigan, the Center for Development Study in Cairo, Egypt, Suez Canal University, Egypt, the University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran, and the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan, Professor Moaddel collected questionnaire data from the publics of Egypt, Jordan, and Iran towards a variety of gender, religious, socioeconomic, cultural and political issues. These surveys began in 1999, and included replicated key items from the World Values Surveys questionnaire in order to permit comparisons between these countries and the data from more than seventy societies covered by those surveys. Through continued financial support from the National Science Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation, additional full-scale surveys of the national representative samples of 3000 Egyptians, 1200 Jordanians, and 2500 Iranians
He is currently collecting data for before-and-after September 11 comparisons of attitudes and values in Morocco, Iran, and Egypt regarding religion, Westernization, national identity, trust, and other issues with a grant from the National Science Foundation.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Preregistration is $48 for faculty or other professionals and $24 for students. Preregistration includes lunch. On-site registration is the same cost, but does NOT guarantee a luncheon ticket. Only those who preregister are guaranteed a seat at the luncheon plenary session which includes the award presentations and the keynote address. Others will be seated as space permits. To be sure of a seat at the luncheon, you are strongly encouraged to preregister.
On-site registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., November 2, 2002 at Rankin Center.
The conference fee includes coffee and pastries, a one-year membership in MSA and subscription to MICHIGAN SOCIOLOGICAL REVIEW,
which will be handed out at the conference.
For preregistration, your check or money order must reach us no later than October 28, 2002.
Please note: All presenters must register and pay the appropriate conference fee.
Presenters should preregister to be sure of being listed in the final program.

Reservations should be made as soon as possible. The special rate of $62 per night plus tax is available to conference participants by asking for the Michigan Sociological Association rate.
