Resettlement Process
ESL classes are available for all refugees at the following sites:
- Zimmerman Center (through MAHS) - morning and evening classes, Monday-Thursday. Classes
started on September 15. First year - free of charge. Closed during summer time.
- Clubhouse at Sunridge - evening classes, twice a week
- Pre-Employment English at JCS - once a week, sessions for 6 or 8 weeks.
- Temple Beth EL (only for seniors) - Tuesday mornings, at l1:00 a.m.
- Most Community College -fall, summer and spring semesters (see also www.mcc.edu) Agency
also provides bilingual tutor for school students and an individual tutor in special
cases.

Acculturation program is a mandatory component of resettlement process. All new
arrivals are expected to attend a series of meetings where professional speakers meet with
them. For the present year the following topics are included:
- The New Welfare Reform Law
- Changes in the Immigration and Naturalization Law
- American Bank System What you should know about Medical and Car Insuranses
- Educational system in the U.S.
- Jews, Jewish culture in the U.S
- Basics of legal system
Initial resettlement process covers first six months after arrival and includes:
- Four month financial support
- Initial housing and furnishing arrangements
- Transportation and interpreting crevices
- Translation of documents
- Appointments' arrangements ( Social Security Office, Secretary of State, Family
Independence Agency (FIA), doctors and dentists, etc.)
- Enrollment to ESL classes
- Acculturation program
- Job search/placement
- Pro bono consultations with doctors and lawyers if needed

After first six months the new Americans continued to be actively involved in Job
Placement. ESL classes, Acculturation program and other social events provided by
JCS.
This program is sponsored by Jobs Central. Everybody who has low income or limited
English and needs a job are welcome to this program. Job search/placement program will
help you with:
- Resume writing
- Introduction to the American job market
- Self assessment and marketing
- Pre-Employment English classes
- Interviewing skills
- Job behavior skills
- How and where to look for a job
- Help with job search and placement
